President Zuzana Caputova made a special address to the nation before this weekend's second round of the presidential election. In it, she declared that voting is actively participating in the shaping of Slovakia's future, whereas choosing not to vote is allowing others to shape that future instead.
As well, she tried to quell concerns over any future president's ability to take Slovakia into a war in Ukraine. “The president has neither the power, nor reason to do that.” she said. The president lamented that fearmongering has played a large role in this year's election.
