Representatives of the opposition 'Slovakia' party held a news conference on Wednesday to critique the government's handling of inflation on food products. The argument was demonstrated with two identical shopping carts filled with products purchased from the same retail chain in Slovakia and Poland. They showed that Slovakia's prices are, on average, 50 percent higher than those in Poland.
According to the party, this is proof that the current government has not kept its campaign promises of curbing inflation on food. "In fact, they've done absolutely nothing to make food prices in Slovakia go down. Food prices have even risen twice as fast as inflation in the first five months of their government," stated MP Julius Jakab.
