Fast-track approval of constitutional law on culling bears

The government is proposing that Parliament should approve a draft constitutional law on the possible shooting of dangerous bears via a fast-tracked legislative procedure, according to a document that the cabinet approved at its session on Wednesday. The draft aims to create a unified legal framework that will provide for special exceptions regulating cases in which it will be necessary to observe a higher societal interest, namely the protection of human life and health.  The Environment Ministry further argues that the significant increase in the bear population in Slovakia requires effective regulation to ensure that people are protected appropriately.
