Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini (Hlas-SD) on Wednesday didn't rule out that there could be a special parliamentary session dedicated to a recently government-approved draft bill dealing with the bear situation.
Pellegrini said that he's set to meet Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (SNS) over the matter on Thursday, adding that the special session probably won't take place until after the second round of the presidential election. Another option is that the matter could be dealt with at the next regular House session, due to start on April 16, noted Pellegrini.
The government at its session on Wednesday approved a draft constitutional bill dealing with the increased presence of bears in the vicinity of towns and villages and related safety threats. The bill would allow towns and villages to set up 500-metre safety zones around them in which it would be possible to kill bears without administrative proceedings if there is a clear risk of an encounter between people and the animals.
