The winner of the first round of the election for president, Ivan Korčok, said on Sunday that he will now have to work even harder to reach the voters who did not yet vote for him.
"We're not in a celebratory mood," he said. "We must increase our efforts. I'm very well aware of that," he said on RTVS.
Peter Pellegrini, who finished second, said: "I see huge differences in what I offer to Slovakia and what my opponent offers.” (...) “I want to be a president of the people, not a president of elites, media, NGOs or foreign countries.”
And later he added that his opponent would be a president who would formulate a foreign policy not in favour of Slovakia, but in favour of foreign countries.
Turnout for presidential elections came to 52 per cent, the Statistics Office reported. In cities and towns the participation was slightly higher than average, in the countryside slightly lower.
