Online shopping more popular in Slovakia

Almost every second Slovak owns a laptop, two out of five Slovaks own standard computers, one-third have smartphones, and one-tenth own tablets, according to a survey carried out by the agency TNS Aisa for Erste Group.

These devices equipped with internet access are also frequently used for online shopping, with 15 percent of Slovaks purchasing products online more than once per month. In comparison to other countries in the region, it's only Austrians and Serbs who are more active in online shopping. On the other end of the chart are Romanians, Croats and Hungarians. While Slovaks purchase mostly clothing and shoes online, electronic devices are most popular across the border in the Czech Republic and in Austria most online shoppers prefer buying vacation trips. The main appeal in online purchases for more than three-fourths of Slovaks is the lower price of goods and services, with a smaller percentage citing comfort when buying goods from home, as well as a wider range and the ability to compare products.
