Slovaks need at least €352 per month for basic expenditures

People in Slovakia need a gross income of at least €352 per month in order to cover their basic expenditures, according to the latest results of a project called Living Wage published by the website MojPlat.sk.

The results show that people who live in cities and larger towns need considerably more resources in order to get by. “In some areas, such as in Bratislava, the net salary of a person has to be at least €370, which corresponds to a gross income of €440 per month”, said MojPlat.sk chief analyst Brian Fabo. The findings are at odds with the subsistence level stipulated by the state of €198.09 per month. “According to legislators, if a person's income exceeds this sum, he or she should have enough resources to secure their principal living needs, including food and accommodation”, said Fabo. Meanwhile, the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry has proposed increasing the minimum wage by 8 percent to €380 per month as of next year.
