Premier and opposition leader clash in Brussels

Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Wednesday that the leader of the largest opposition party, Michal Šimečka, was in Brussels to ask the EU to stop subsidies for Slovakia. "Mr. Šimečka is urging the Brussels bodies to hurt Slovakia. Mr. Šimečka, have you gone mad? (...) Do you really think you can defeat us by hurting the Slovak Republic? Not even rats would do that," said Fico.

Šimečka later in the day responded. “I’m fighting and lobbying for Slovakia not to lose its EU money. I’m calling on Róbert Fico to take every step needed to save billions from the Recovery Plan for Slovakia. This is a direct consequence of his actions and he's been warned repeatedly about it by the European institutions,“ he said.
