Danko pulls out, endorses Harabin for president

Andrej Danko, leader of the SNS party, withdrew his candidacy for the presidency today, Monday. At a joint news conference he endorsed Štefan Harabin, a former justice minister:  “in January, we made a gentleman's agreement that we would support each other depending on who would be more successful in the pre-election preferences," he said.

Harabin thanked him for uniting what he called the national-patriotic forces. "I am in favour of joining forces for the European Parliament as well," he said.

In the latest opinion poll, conducted the week before last by Focus, Danko was backed by 3 per cent of respondents; Harabin by 13. The two front runners, Petr Pellegrini and Ivan Korčok, were at 34 and 33 per cent respectively.
