The newly appointed Deputy Director of the State Intelligence Services appeared before a parliamentary committee Monday. He said that President Zuzana Čaputová was not bypassed. "The President can say at any time whether she will appoint me [to the post of SIS head] or not," he said.
Gašpar also said he cannot disclose when he received his security clearance, or when he became a member of the SIS.
Committee chair Mária Kolíková called his answers unsatisfactory. "The fact that Pavol Gašpar heads the SIS today, I consider counter to the law or to the constitution," she told journalists.
Pavol Gašpar was only questioned by opposition parties; No members of the coalition parties showed up for the session.
