Prime Minister Róbert Fico repeated late Wednesday his demand that the president of the Constitutional Court should resign, because parts of a historic decision were leaked to the press before the interested parties were informed.
The president of the Court, Ivan Fiačan, acknowledged that the gist of the decision had been leaked to the press.
He apologized, and announced an investigation. But, he said, the decision was not leaked by any of the judges. "In no way do I consider this to be a reason for me to resign from the position of President of the Constitutional Court.“
He insisted that he and the judges of the Constitutional Court act autonomously, impartially and do not act under pressure.
His spokesman said the investigation would be concluded in weeks, not months.
