Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová criticized the public broadcaster RTVS – of which this program is a part – for not being an impartial institution, for not providing objective and balanced information, and for not fulfilling its public function. She made these statements in a video published on Instagram.
"I find it alarming that RTVS has almost zero own Slovak production, but the management always finds money for overpriced licensed foreign programs," she said. She also deplored the fact RTVS did not get the rights to broadcast the Ice Hockey World Championships.
A spokeswoman for RTVS issued a reply, saying: RTVS is considered the most objective news source, according to national surveys, for the past four years.
She said there is a lot of Slovak programming on its channels, and RTVS is also the largest co-producer of film production in Slovakia. As for the Ice Hockey rights, she says RTVS simply does not have the money to compete with commercial rivals. (RTVS)
