The government decided to keep the statute of limitations for violent crimes such as rape, instead of shortening the time limits. An amendment to that effect was approved by the cabinet Wednesday.
Justice minister Boris Susko said the opposition has turned the issue into a political issue to create fear before the elections. He said the real problem with rape was the fact that women don’t dare to report it. "We need to set such rules for women so that they are not under pressure and stress to report it right when it happens," he said.
