The amendment to the Penal Code approved by Parliament last week hasn't yet been received by President Zuzana Caputova, the President's Spokesman Martin Strizinec told TASR on Tuesday.
"I can confirm that the amendment to the Penal Code hasn't been delivered to the President's Office up to this moment, so we're still waiting for it," said Strizinec.
Following the amendment's approval in Parliament, the head of state said that she'll consider all options to prevent it from coming into effect. She called its passing by Parliament bad news for Slovakia and all its citizens.
Parliament passed the amendment to the Penal Code, sponsored by the Justice Ministry, last Thursday (February 8). The piece of legislation will usher in several fundamental changes, such as the scrapping of Special Prosecutor's Office (USP), the shortening of statutes of limitation, higher criminal damage classifications and lighter sentencing. The House dealt with the amendment via a short-tracked procedure. (TASR)
