President receives Ombudsman

President Zuzana Caputova on Tuesday received Ombudsman Robert Dobrovodsky to discuss poverty, the most serious human rights violations, the situation in re-education centres and complaints relating to the environment.

The ombudsman requested the meeting in particular to brief the President on his findings, which he incorporates into his annual reports.

Dobrovodsky said that he sees poverty as the greatest human rights challenge, stressing the difficult situation of homeless people in this vein. Moreover, the Ombudsman claimed that he's set to convene round-table talks to address this issue in March.

According to Dobrovodsky, the President was interested in the most serious human rights violations. The Ombudsman claimed that he's discovered such cases, for instance, in the area of health care provision, delays in pension matters and access to special medicines.

The ombudsman also confirmed an increase in the number of complaints concerning the environment. "People are more sensitive," he noted, adding that they report, for instance, polluted water and noise from construction sites and roads. (TASR)
