Bank profits balloon

The 25 banks operating in Slovakia together booked 1.2 billion euro in profits last year. The government has already promised it would levy a one-off special tax of 30% on these profits, to help balance its budget. The banks saw their profits grow by 46 per cent last year, mainly thanks to rising interest rates offered by the ECB. (TASR)
