The chairman of parliament and leader of the second coalition party, Peter Pellegrini, met with the head of the European Parliament yesterday evening. He told Roberta Metsola that the resolution critical of the Slovak government, adopted last week, contains parts that can be discussed, but also issues that the European Parliament has no right to meddle in.
He said the Special Prosecutor’s Office is a body created by political decision, which will be abolished by political will. He said the decision would not affect investigations of corruption.
‘Judge us by deeds, not words‘
Pellegrini also discussed Ukraine with Metsola. He said Slovakia's relations with Ukraine should be judged by actions, not by political statements.
He reminded her of Slovakia's ongoing humanitarian and technical assistance to Ukraine, help with demining and shipments of specific aid from the Health Ministry. He said that ammunition for Ukraine is produced by companies that are partially state-owned. Facilities in the east of Slovakia, where damaged Ukrainian military equipment are being repaired, will not be shut down.
Pellegrini is still in Brussels and today is scheduled to meet the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen; and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Maroš Šefčovič. And also the head of the European Council, Charles Michel.
