Top Slovak skier Petra Vlhova sustained a serious knee injury in the first run of the giant slalom in Jasna, on Saturday. She was transported off the hill by a toboggan and subsequently flown to hospital. Her manager later said she tore a knee ligament and also hit her head and shoulder. She will not compete this season anymore.
Vlhova released a statement saying: "Thank you all for your tremendous support. I'm positive that I can handle the situation. I will fight for the earliest possible comeback."
Her main competitor, Michaela Shiffrin, offered her sympathy, saying she would miss a great rival.
