On 19th of January, Slovakia celebrates 31 years in the United Nations. According to the Foreign Minister, Juraj Blanár, joining the UN meant a strong message of recognition of Slovakia as an independent sovereign country. Slovakia was a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Later it became a member of the UN Economic and Social Council for the first time, it chaired the International Court of Justice. Blanár said that the quality of Slovak diplomacy was confirmed by the presidency of the UN General Assembly from 2017 to 2018.
