Prime Minister Robert Fico did not inform the leadership of his party SMER-SD of his decision to run for the post of President, claims SMER’s spokeswoman Monika Pocatkova. She claims the party leadership has never discussed this topic and it will be on the agenda no sooner than in autumn of 2013.
She was thus reacting to speculations printed in the Hospodárske Noviny daily claiming that Fico has for the first time confirmed his presidential aspirations to the Smer leadership. If he were to run for this post about 30 percent of Slovaks would like Robert Kaliňák, the current Interior Minister to replace him both in the position of Prime Minister and also as party leader, brings a survey of the MVK pollster.
