Medical faculties can admit 150 more students

Medical faculties in Slovakia will be able to admit an extra 150 students, Parliamentary Chair Peter Pellegrini (Hlas-SD) told a news conference on Wednesday, adding that they can accept the increased number of medical students as early as at the next entrance interviews.

"The line of success in the next entrance interviews will be shifted so that a total of 150 students more than in the situation we have today will be admitted to the first year of studies at individual faculties," said Pellegrini.

Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Hlas-SD) said that the Medical Faculty of the Bratislava-based Comenius University should accept an extra 45 students in the next school year, the Jessenius Medical Faculty of Comenius University in Martin an extra 30 students, the Medical Faculty of the Kosice-based Pavol Jozef Safarik University an extra 45 and the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava an extra 30. "The agreement is yet to be approved by the academic senates of individual universities," added Drucker.
