President receives legal authorities

President Zuzana Caputova on Wednesday morning received legal experts and authorities to hold a roundtable discussion with them about changes to the Penal Code that are currently undergoing a debate in Parliament. Constitutional lawyer Ladislav Orosz, former justice minister Lucia Zitnanska, Specialized Criminal Court judge Rastislav Stieranka, Council of Prosecutors chairman Stanislav Jakubcik, Special Prosecutor's Office prosecutor Lucia Bizonova and Peter Sepesi of the Prosecutor-General's Office are taking part in the roundtable talks. The President has announced that she'll make a special appearance in Parliament regarding the Penal Code reform at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 18.

Parliament is debating the government's proposal to discuss the amendment via a fast-track legislative procedure for the second week. The amendment entails the scrapping of the Special Prosecutor's Office and introduces several changes in penal levels.
