The Office of the Prosecutor General carried out inspections of re-education centres last year, and reported that these facilities are not fulfilling their purpose and do not represent a safe place for children where their rights are respected. It therefore considers that a systemic change in the operation of re-education centres is necessary, including a review of their premises and staffing, and has decided to initiate a meeting with the competent authorities on 18 January in this regard.
