Meanwhile, the region of Kosice is gearing up for the new Volvo plant, which is scheduled to open in 2026 and expected to employ 16,000 people. The local authorities are developing a program to retrain 20,000 unemployed people. Nine vocational schools will coordinate their programs with the car factory. The State is investing 730 million euros in total, and expects to recoup this amount in about six years.
