Slovakia and Hungary refuse to sign anti-Russian declaration
Slovakia and Hungary were the only EU countries who did not sign a declaration condemning Russia‘s use of ballistic missiles against Ukraine. The declaration, an initiative from the United States, says the missiles were bought from North Korea, in a breach of an UN resolution.

Turkey, not in the EU but a NATO member, did not sign the declaration either.

Separately, Prime Minister Robert Fico wrote an opinion piece in the Pravda newspaper yesterday in which he said the West’s strategy in Ukraine wasn’t working.

“It is absolutely clear to everyone that the crisis in Ukraine has no military solution. If I wish for something, it is for the Slavs to stop fighting each other for geopolitical reasons, both on the American and Russian sides. Let Ukraine follow its sovereign, not dictated, path. If it sees itself in the EU, let it get this chance. We will be happy to help. Russia also needs its security guarantees.“
