Andrej Danko, chairman of the coalition party SNS, is preparing to enter the election for President to compete with Pellegrini, who leads coalition partner Hlas.
If the next president is someone from the coalition, „we want to open the coalition agreement in terms of positions," he said in an interview with the news outlet Pluska. According to local newspapers, he wants the Economy Ministry to be led by someone of his own party.
Political scientist Radoslav Štefančík of the University of Economics in Bratislava said: „I think that what Andrej Danko is doing is just a form of blackmailing of his coalition partner, the Hlas SD party, in order to gain a greater position of power in the coalition. But I think that Andrej Danko is not really after the presidential palace and he must be fully aware of the fact that he has no chance of being elected President by the Slovaks.”
