Slovakia is planning to build a logistics base that should be used by NATO in Poprad, Eastern Slovakia, Defence Minister Martin Glvač stated after the end of the NATO summit in Newport, Wales.
President Andrej Kiska stated that the logistics centre should be used for storing ammunition and that Slovakia offered its airport in Sliač, Central Slovakia and the training facility in Lest, Central Slovakia for the Alliance's manoeuvres. Slovakia has also pledged to allocate 20 percent of its defence budget to the modernisation of its army. In addition, the country should allocate 1.6 percent of its GDP to defence purposes by 2020.
