There seems to be a race on, between the government and the special prosecutor’s office. Sme newspaper reports that thanks to a technical manoeuvre by parliament chairman Peter Pellegrini, on the last working day before Christmas, the office could be closed in February. The opposition had hoped to delay the closure until March.
Meanwhile, three days before this parliamentary session, the prosecutor’s office filed indictments for bribery against two people, one of them ex-minister of Justice Gabor Gal.
In May of 2022, when the police went public with these suspicions, Gal said the resolution to bring charges was not based on true information.
According to the ÚŠP, in one case it was a bribe in the amount of 120,000 euros. In the second case, it was about requesting and accepting a bribe in the amount of 50,000 euros and a non-monetary bribe - the possibility of using a hunting ground. (TASR, Sme)
