On the Day of Miners, on Friday last week, returning to the surface from the coal mine Novaky Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the government might try to acquire the shares that the Italian company Enel is offering for sale in the power utility Slovenske Elektrarne.
According to him, this could intensify further the existing cooperation between the local mining company HBP and the local thermal power plant Elektraren Novaky. Fico reassured miners from the upper Nitra region, western Slovakia, that the change of ownership of the 66 percent in Slovenske Elektrarne will not endanger the modernization of the power plant Elektrarne Novaky or jobs in the HBP mines.
