Education Minister Pellegrini wants schools funded via different method

We should change the way in which primary and secondary schools are funded and facilities should be allocated resources not per pupil but per class, stated Education, Science, Research and Sport Minister Peter Pellegrini on RTVS's political discussion show on Sunday.

Pellegrini went on to say that the method of distributing money to schools that is currently in place has resulted in a hunt for the highest number of students, an element that works to the detriment of the quality of education. Pellegrini expects the change to translate into higher efficiency. Former Education Minister Eugen Jurzyca, member of one of the opposition parties currently, is of a different opinion. He doesn’t believe that the proposed change will bring more money into the education sector or boost the quality of education.
