LNG Terminal for new gas imports

LNG Terminal for new gas imports

Slovakia will build a new LNG terminal in the harbor area of Bratislava. This will receive LNG from countries other than Russia, whose gas exports were banned after the country invaded Ukraine.

Environment Minister Tomas Taraba, who approved the project yesterday, took the opportunity to criticize EU sanctions against Russia, which in his view had no effect whatsoever.

The Environment Ministry issued the final approval in March 2023 and recommended the construction of the LNG terminal in Bratislava. According to the ministry, negative environmental impacts can be eliminated by taking measures. NGOs Greenpeace Slovensko and Znepokojené matky (Concerned Mothers) delivered appeals against the issued final opinion.
