The sale and use of certain pyrotechnic products of categories F2 and F3 will be banned in Slovakia as of Tuesday, January 2. These include firecrackers or flash firecrackers and other similar products. This follows from an amendment to the law on explosives, explosive articles and munitions, which comes into force on Tuesday.
The new legislation speaks of banning firecrackers whose main effect is noise. It also specifies the time of use of other fireworks, namely from 6 p.m. to midnight on December 31 and from midnight to 2 a.m. on January 1. They will only be allowed to be used in places at least 250 metres away from hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, social services facilities, quarantine stations, animal shelters and rescue centres, veterinary clinics or zoos or facilities for the rescue of protected animals.
The sale of pyrotechnics in self-service outlets that are not designated for that purpose will also be prohibited. An exception is the sale of F1 products. The law also provides for consumers to be able to buy pyrotechnics, if the local municipality has allowed them to be used.
The process of authorising the execution of fireworks is also modified so that it is less bureaucratic and time-consuming.
