Parliament approved the establishment of a new Tourism and Sport Ministry via fast-track proceedings on Wednesday.
The role of the ministry will be to bolster and streamline the use of public resources and potential in the tourism sector and to significantly support the recognition of Slovakia abroad as a safe tourist destination and to create space in foreign markets for the smooth growth of revenues in the sector.
Another objective of the ministry will be to support and develop spa and cycling tourism. "The promotion of tourism is closely linked to the development of the regions of the Slovak Republic, which will help to balance regional disparities within Slovakia by maintaining existing jobs as well as creating new ones, thereby increasing the competitiveness of Slovakia and its individual regions," read the submitted materials. The new ministry is also expected to promote congress tourism as another important source of revenue for the state and cities.
The ministry will be officially established on January 1.
