The bill on stripping representatives of communist regime of undeserved benefits is unconstitutional, the Constitutional Court decided on Wednesday.
The legislation, passed by Parliament in June 2021, was challenged in the court by then-opposition lawmakers and the court has suspended its effects since March 2022.
In the past, the bill drew criticism from Smer-SD and President Zuzana Caputova. Then-coalition lawmakers presented it as an effort to ensure justice, as they found pensions of former communist representatives highly above-average, whereas pensions of those persecuted by the erstwhile communist power rather low.
