A deal reached by European ministers for energy on Tuesday in Brussels will contribute towards the stability of energy prices, Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Hlas-SD party) stated after a session of the EU's Energy Council.
The minister thanked the ministers who contributed towards the decision to grant Slovakia an exemption from the 12th package of the EU sanctions against Russia. The European Commission unveiled the measures on Monday (December 18).
According to Sakova, Slovakia can thus continue to sell products made from imported Russian oil to the Czech Republic and Ukraine, an operation that bolsters income for the state budget and preserves employment of the Bratislava oil refinery.
Sakova added that the principle of solidarity is supposed to ensure that no EU country will remain without gas if its contracted supplies fail and such a situation won't endanger its population or enterprises. She pointed out that Slovakia, with its fully filled gas reservoirs, hasn't yet received any request for help, but in case a crisis emerges it is prepared to lend a helping hand to other states.
