Slovaks don’t trust politicians

It is not easy being a politician in Slovakia. Slovaks are deeply cynical about the people who are supposed to run their country. Not one politician has the trust of more than half of the population. The most trustworthy political leader in Slovakia, according to a new opinion poll, is the leader of Hlas and the chairman of parliament, Peter Pellegrini. He is trusted by 46 per cent of respondents - but distrusted by 52 percent.

For other politicians, the same picture or worse. Prime Minister Robert Fico: trusted by 37 per cent, distrusted by 62 per cent. President Zuzana Caputova: trusted by 42 percent, distrusted by 56 percent. Further down the list: the leader of the SaS party Richard Sulik is trusted by only 23 percent/distrusted by 74 percent, former Prime Minister Igor Matovic is trusted by 11 percent and distrusted by 87 percent.
