School children in the entire rich world are getting worse at reading, writing and arithmetic.
Several studies have concluded that smartphones are to blame: the children’s attention span is getting shorter. But there is a positive side: digital skills are improving, in Slovakia at least.
A survey of almost 700 schools in the four Visegrad countries, with over 13,000 pupils between seven and 16, shows that the kids in Slovakia did better than last year. The best of the four countries, actually. Schools in Bratislava did best. The children were good at internet searches, but still have to work on their security skills.
