Slovakia will go to the Nato summit in Newport, Wales hot off the news that until 2020 the country has upped its defence spending to 1.6% of GDP announced the President of the Slovak Republic Andrej Kiska before leaving to join other world leaders in the Principality.
“In the area of defence spending there has been a slow decline in recent years, but we will now push for a modernization drive of the Slovak Armed Forces, taking it up to 1.6% of GDP until 2020 that will help support our forces already next year in their Afghanistan missions” said the President. World leaders join for the summit in Wales, at a time when the Ukraine situation is a huge issue, especially for bordering countries such as Slovakia.
