Prime minister Robert Fico held a press conference on Sunday to say he insists on scrapping of the Special Prosecutor's Office (USP), and on having it approved by Parliament in a so-called ‚fast track‘ procedure.
His Interior Minister, Matus Sutaj Estok, said in a TV interview that rights and freedoms were violated by the Office. He said collaborating witnesses, so-called penitents, were treated unfairly and others were put in prison to put pressure on them. ‘Every day of the existence of the Special Prosecutor’s Office brings the risk that it will continue,’ he pointed out.
