A church tower collapsed in the village of Lab (Bratislava region) on Tuesday afternoon, with no injuries reported so far, said Bratislava regional police spokesperson Tatiana Kurucova. Maria Lisa from the municipality office told TASR that the church has undergone extensive reconstruction in recent years.
Village mayor Monika Valuchova told the news website cas.sk that the tower, which mainly hit the church itself, also damaged the altar. “We are standing nearby now and we feel like crying,” said the mayor. People from the village were unable to find the local parish priest for long after the tower collapsed. "We fear that he might be under the debris," said a woman who lives near the church. It emerged later that the priest was at the doctor's at the time.
