Former defence minister Martin Fedor (SDKU-DS) on Tuesday called on the Government to make a clear statement on how it plans to increase defence spending in line with its promises made to NATO.
“The defence budget currently reaches €803.79 million, which is 1.04 percent of GDP,” said Fedor, adding that Slovakia has pledged to allocate at least 2 percent of GDP on defence. Also, with just a few days to go before the NATO summit in Newport, Wales, Slovakia is the only country at the eastern NATO border that doesn't have a clear stance towards the Ukrainian crisis, said Fedor.
