Transport Minister supports Slovak truck protests

Slovak truck drivers who are protesting favourable treatment of Ukrainian drivers are getting support from the Transport Minister. The ministry is negotiating with carriers and the Ukrainian Transport Ministry about the situation.

Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russian troops, Ukrainian carriers aren't required to get permits for transport within the European Union. According to Slovak carriers, this distorts the market and reduces competitiveness. The exception on permits runs until June next year. UNAS, the Slovak union of truck drivers, is asking that Brussels reintroduce them.

"I believe that we'll be able to resolve the situation in such a way that the Slovak carriers are satisfied,” said Transport Minister Jozef Raz. “We can say already today that our position is shared by Hungary and we have similar signals from other countries."
