More background checks of loans applicants

More background checks of loans applicants

Thousands of Slovaks, who will apply for a loan, can experience an unpleasant surprise. Either banks will not give them any money, or they will not get the amount they will have asked for. And this applies even to those who today would receive a loan without any problems, writes the Hospodarske Noviny daily.

This is the plan of the Finance Ministry, which it wants to introduce as of next year. Today, for loans in non-bank financial institutions or even leasing contracts it was not compulsory to report to banks and they had no way of verifying them. Now, this is about to change. The government wants to establish a single register of information about loans both for banks and non-bank financial institutions. So, if a financial company would find in the register that the loan applicant has high debts, it would not have to approve their request for a new loan.
