President Caputova yesterday said that what she called ‘the massive flood of lies on social networks’ cannot be stopped by the legal system alone. She was speaking at a conference at the Pan-European University in Bratislava.
"Dialogue between people, between communities is gradually disappearing and mutual interactions are moving into the zone of conflict, which is no longer a creative dispute," she said.
But the decline of empathy or respect cannot be corrected only through legal regulations. "These values must also be reflected in how we treat each other. We need to return them to public life, to the exercise of power, to our educational system and professional life," she pointed out. According to her, the idea of the Gentle Revolution, that truth and love will triumph over lies and hatred, should be remembered even now.
