Retail spending down

Retail sales dropped for the eighth month in a row in September. Compared to the same month last year, spending was 5.4% lower.

The biggest drop was in hobby markets, furniture and consumer electronic stores. Bright spartks were in cars sales and repairs, strongly up in September, and also in cafes, bars and restaurants, up 11 per cent.
