Slovakia is one of the most expensive countries in Europe to buy a house: you need about 14 times the average salary to buy one, according to a new study. Fortunately, Slovakia has the second highest rate of home ownership in Europa – 90 per cent of Slovak own the house they live in.
But higher mortgage rates mean that for many, buying is no longer an option. There is also demand from newcomers on the market, especially in the capital. With current interest rates, the mortgage payment is approximately 30 per cent higher than the rent for an average apartment in Bratislava, said the author of the residential analysis.
