Slovak president undergoes the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Accepting the nomination by Slovak tennis player Dominika Cibulková, Slovak president Andrej Kiska has joined many other politicians, celebrities and athletes from all over the world in the charity stunt known as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

The principle behind the challenge, which has recently gone viral on the internet, lies in accepting the challenge from one's friends and relatives, and choosing between pouring a bucket of ice water over one's head or donating a certain amount of money towards the research of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or doing both. The charity stunt is to raise money and awareness of the disease. “The whole campaign looks like fun, but it's not actually. Though I've been concerned with people suffering from various diseases for years in the Good Angel charity, I have to admit that I didn't know much about this disease. This campaign prompted me to research on the topic. To pour an ice-cold bucket over my head is the least thing I can do for people suffering from this disease,” wrote the President on his social-network profile. Carrying out the stunt on Friday, Kiska further sent out the challenge to Slovak ice-hockey player Peter Bondra, cyclist Peter Sagan and Good Angel charity director Jan Dobák.
