The Slovak Environment Inspectorate will carry out an inspection at the Slovnaft refinery in Bratislava in the next few days. This after the explosions on the flare stacks, which caused black smoke seen rising from the refinery on Thursday.
The inspectorate was told that the incident was the result of a power outage. A spokesman said this had never happened in the refinery’s history. The power outage caused the shutdown of several production units.
Over the next few days, people may continue to notice combustion, increased noise levels and a bad smell from the refinery caused by the gradual restart of production units.
