The key to resolving Roma issue in Slovakia is to introduce pre-school education for Roma children, Government Proxy for Roma Communities Peter Pollak said in Kosice after his meeting with Roma mothers on Thursday.
The meeting was organised as part of the project 'Investments in Early Childhood - Support of Social Innovation and Integration of Roma'. “If we sufficiently prepare Roma children for primary school with pre-school education, then there's a large probability that those children will be successful within the school system. If they become successful, they'd acquire qualification. If they acquire qualification, they'd be highly likely to land a job. And once they land jobs, we won't have to talk to them about Roma issues anymore because those people will form part of the labour system and not social system. We'll have one huge problem less on our list,” said Pollak.
