A balanced budget next year is not the right solution for Slovakia. All partners agreed on this at Monday's meeting of the Economic and Social Council. Michal Horváth, head of the finance ministry, said the ministry must submit such a proposal by law. However, he will recommend to Parliament not to pass it. According to him, it is up to the newly elected government to prepare a new realistic budget, which Slovakia will need from next year. All social partners oppose the balanced budget proposal and call for it not to be adopted. They agree on the need for a gradual recovery of public finances, but have different views on the appropriate measures. They expect the new government formed after the recent parliamentary elections to discuss a realistic budget proposal.
